Dear All:

Thanks for your continued support for the BOINC@TACC project!

Just wanted to give you all a heads-up that between today and next Monday, you would see an increase in the number of jobs submitted from BOINC@TACC. Majority of these jobs would be related to the SARS-COV2 related research.

Best Regards,
The BOINC@TACC Development Team

Awesome! We'd love to help spread the news with the BOINC Network. Is there any more info on what the work is doing?

Yes, and also to the VMs in the cloud - those run Docker containers without VirtualBox.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the help! These are most likely going to be molecular dynamics simulations (e.g., NAMD or GROMACS) and drug discovery applications (http://vina.scripps.edu/). However, the researchers may be running their own custom-written code as well for studying the virus (we do not know much about this part yet). We will be happy to post an update as soon as we have additional information on this.

Do you support the latest version of VirtualBox (6.1.4)??

I think it should work but have not tested it out. We will update this thread soon if the latest version of VirtualBox has any compatibility issues.

Thanks,

Hello,

We have done a test using VirtualBox 6.1.4, however, we have been unable to correctly process the jobs. Using a previous version of VirtualBox (5.1.38) solved the issue.

Sincerely,
the BOINC@TACC development team

No problem.
I removed the 6.1.x version on my pc and installed 5.1.38.
Is it necessary the Extension Pack?

54 ongoing tasks, 17 users and 18 machines with recent credit.

A small step for the crunchers but a giant leap for TACC ??

I see two strange things in my tasks:

first the tasks are reported with 0.00 CPU time and the log looks also not really convincing with all the errors:

2020-04-04 11:01:02 (2168): Guest Log: Error: could not open "5r80_apo.pdbqt" for reading.

However the WUs are validated which might be the case because I was always my own wingman. So I have just aborted half of my WUs to get it validated by another computer.

Greetings Marcus.

Greetings,

There will be more jobs submitted soon. By any chance, were those 500 wus in the "waiting" stage when your PC reported "got 0 new tasks. no work available"?

Thanks,
The BOINC@TACC Team

Greetings,

Thanks for reporting the errors with the jobs. It seems like the data file "5r80_apo.pdbqt" either got corrupted or was missing from the submitted job, and due to this the jobs clocked 0 CPU time. Sorry about this. We will check the logs at our end to see what all might have gone wrong with the data.

Best Regards,
The BOINC@TACC Team

I think it's simply a problem of server status page refresh....
