I don't know if researchers at TACC still need volunteers contribution..

Thanks for sharing the news! TACC staff, or the researchers at TACC, are not the direct consumers of the volunteered compute-cycles. BOINC@TACC is primarily meant for use by the researchers in the academic community, who have also been allocated compute-time on TACC systems, but do not have sufficient allocation left.

TACC systems are shared resources. There could be thousands of researchers running their jobs simultaneously on these systems. To ensure the fair-use of the systems, there are queuing policies in place. If the researchers have a low-priority assigned for their jobs on these systems and their jobs would not run for let us say, 2-3 days, then they can choose to run their jobs through BOINC@TACC.

Best Regards,
BOINC@TACC Team

Still say the BOINC@TACC requirements are too small and therefore, It doesn't seem to be too useful for the researchers or volunteers.

Do you have a measurement of "how full" are the internal computing capacity of TACC, to have an estimate of "how bad would the researchers need extra-power i.e. boinc ressources ?

Are the researchers even aware of that possibility ?

Greetings,

Thanks for checking! Our systems are currently running at 94% to 97% capacity.

We advertise BOINC@TACC to TACC/XSEDE researchers/scholars through training and outreach events.

Best Regards,
The BOINC@TACC team
