Other projects use VB, cause checkpoint problems.
But here wus are very short so, why use virtual machine?
If it is a platform/code problem, you can use boinc wrapper...

We are running applications as Docker containers. Therefore, to provide an isolated execution environment for the application that works on diverse host systems, and to ensure the safety of the underlying host system, VirtualBox is required.

Uh, ok, thank you for clarification.
This seems that we will not have a gpu client in the future.

Docker already provides isolation, application in container only shares kernel with host, everything else is taken from container image. BOINC has Docker support, and few other projects are using it successfully. It sounds surprising to me that you use both Docker and VM.
